If and when I ever grow up

27 October 2008, 5:30 pm. 24 Comments. Filed under Miscellaneous, Personal.

Living with the parents, I obviously (tend to) go with the family rules and habits. But there are so many little things I want to have when I can eventually have my independent life (let alone the big things like a mansion-apartment and Porsche). So if and when I ever "grow up", I shall get myself:

I'm sure I'd be coming up with more soon. But grr I want them now! *off to shower*

Law Ball 2008

I thought the theme for our Law ball this year sucked—"Ball of Zulu", a Safari theme. Not elegant and classy at all! But I must say, it turned out to be the best ball I've ever been to!

How it's different to the previous high school balls I've been to:

  1. All the girls were better dressed for some reason.
  2. No partner this year. :P Don't have enough guy friends in law. -_-
  3. Rather than looking at young, childish girls and boys, now it's maturer ladies and gentlemen.
  4. Our high school used to hold balls at the Auckland museum and the train station with bad-ass food. But the Law balls are sponsored by large law firms so we pay a lower price for a grand hotel and high quality food.

Three-course dinner beginning with the best smoked salmon entree I've ever had, moved on to an eye-fillet steak main, and finished with a luxurious dessert plate!

Best-dressed guy no doubt!

The gorrrrgeous girls of the night. :P Indoors and outdoors!

And probably the best I've looked all year with my highly-complimented feather fascinator. :D *is being vain and self-conceited*

First time I tried red lipstick all year and now I really like it. So I've moved on from the baby high school stuff, and uni is definitely better now. :P

Well except... When it comes to exams. I have lots of things to say, but I don't have the time to say, so if I blog any time more between now and 13 November, they'll have lots of phone camera pictures and little writing. No objections? And by that time I hope Obama would be the new controller of the world.

A little contrast to my daily life

First, let's define my daily life:

But for an anomaly of a past week, I was allowed to go to four parties in a row—big big contrast to my 5pm curfew last year.

  1. Law Stein: with a "90's Rave" theme, this was the last of our four annual steins. (Although I hear of a fifth coming after the final exams.) The most un-sober I got on this night was at the pre-drinks party hehe.
  2. Opening Night Dinner: a great event for a chat with random new people. Fun, but I was extremely red and tipsy after one glass of chardonnay. Couldn't take more, or I wouldn't have been able to get to my bus home.
  3. Pub Crawl: Arrived at the city with my outfit ready, full-on with a stethoscope and all, I was planning to attend the event as a "zambuk" (kudos to you if you know what it means). But I didn't sleep well the night before, so after timekeeping for a mooting competition I wagged the event and went home. This day marked the failure of my party marathon. Sigh.
  4. Cocktail Party: free cocktails, interactions with lawyers at a large law firm at the Auckland Viaduct, what could go wrong? Well, a vodka-champagne mix pushed me over the edge and I couldn't stand straight for an hour afterwards. I suck at alcohol. Period.

So I trotted along to those parties in the name of "social network building" within my future career field. The last three were special events held by the NZLSA Conference, which I was invited to for building their website (together with Tim).

Now that also explains my lack of blogging. There, I've fulfilled my dream #1 of attending a classy, civilised cocktail event like those in movies and novels (except not as grand but still). And now, I'm back to reality:

Update: Added some photos of the party events!
